AK Bets appoints Joe Lee as new Head of Strategy & Performance

Posted on 17/07/2023 By Mark

AK Bets has appointed Joe Lee as the company’s new Head of Strategy & Performance.

AK Bets is an operator that began as an on-track bookmaker, taking bets for the first time at Killarney in July 2021.

Despite a loss of €1,172 ($1,316) on the first day of taking bets, AK Bets took over 70,000 bets in its first full year of operations and expanded into online betting at the start of 2023, launching a website and mobile app.

Lee joins the role with a long career in the gambling industry. He previously spent over six years at Paddy Power Betfair, where he held the roles of Head of Product Management, Head of Trump Betting and Head of GB & Ireland.

Lee has also held roles at Sportsbet, Matchbook Betting Exchange and One-Zero.

Lee said: “I’m really delighted to be joining AK Bets and returning to the industry as Head of Strategy & Performance. It’s both exciting and refreshing to get back into startup mode and work with some really top people.

“Despite some significant industry consolidation in recent years, there are still opportunities for disrupters such as AK Bets and I’m looking forward to leveraging my knowledge and expertise to help the business succeed.”

AK Bets is founded by Anthony Kaminskas, who worked with Lee at Paddy Power, where he held the roles of Senior Horse Racing Risk Manager and later Head of Greyhound Racing.
